<the visual look of the film was built up using a range of techniques in combination with each other. some sections were created using standard animation tracing methods with acetates (or cels) overlaid on painted backgrounds. others were achieved building up the image through multiple exposures in the rostrum camera. in other places a combination of top and backlit exposures was employed to create a hybrid effect.

this design strategy was adopted to visually differentiate the worlds of gods and men. the divine characters were mostly painted with light to appear composed of energy rather than base matter.
